This map shows the places mentioned in our biography of Muse. These locations correspond to key places related to the African American past in the historic core of Jacksonville. The Muse home is located in the African American residential development of Durkeeville. The headquarters of the Negro Writers Unit in the Clara White Mission and the Vylo-Vole Beauty Culture College in the Masonic Temple are found in LaVilla, the heart of Black Jacksonville in the early twentieth century. Old City Cemetery to the east of Downtown, and Memorial Cemetery to the north, were both burial grounds used by Jacksonville's African American communities.
